UNDERGRADUATE QUALIFICATIONS APPEALS PROCEDURE

Appeals are done when circumstances deviate from the following general rules:

a.      Special requisites for particular modules:

  • A student shall not be permitted to register for a particular module unless he/she has met the requisite requirements,
  • In exceptional circumstances, a deviation may be approved by the Faculty Management Committee.

b.      Concurrent registration

  • Except by permission of the Faculty Management Committee, no student shall concurrently be registered, in the same academic year for more than one qualification or programme at the University.
  • Subject and except by permission of the Faculty Management Committee, a student may not, in the same academic year, be registered for a formal qualification, programme or module(s) at another higher education institution.

c.  Maximum number of credits that may be registered for per academic year:

  • A student shall not be allowed to register for modules with a combined credit value of more than 120 credits per academic year unless prescribed in the relevant Faculty Rules.

 

If a student submits an appeal, the following process must be followed:

Student submits a Student Request Form to the Head of Department of the specific programme

 

The Head of Department’s Outcome:

The appeal is either supported, or if not supported and the student does not accept the Head of Department’s decision, the following process is followed:

The student’s request/ application is to serve at Faculty Management Committee. The request/application must be submitted to the Faculty Management Committee secretariat, Marilyn Afrikaner

The application serves at Faculty Management Committee presented by the Faculty Academic Administrative Consultant: the following are Consultants for the various programmes:

  • Social Development Professions and Psychology Mr Siyabulela Mashalaba, email: siyabulela.mashalaba@mandela.ac.za, Tel: 041504 2109

The Secretariat gives the outcome to the Head of Department and Consultant. The outcome is given in writing to the student.

The student accepts the outcome, OR if the student does not accept FMC outcome, the student can submit an appeal against the FMC outcome.

The appeal is submitted to the University Appeals Committee on behalf of the student by the Faculty Administration Manager.

The student must ONLY complete the Appeal against FMC/FAC form
