The National Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has opened applications for funding for the 2025 academic year. The applications close on 15 December 2024.
The following information is what has been made available by NSFAS to us:
-
If an applicant has only created their Student profile and has not proceeded to finish and submit their application: they have not completed the application process. This is very important to note.
-
If your NSFAS funding for the 2024 academic year was approved but you chose a different funder to fund your studies: you are encouraged to please re-apply for 2025 IF you would like NSFAS to fund your studies in 2025.
-
University Students must achieve a course credit pass rate of 60% at the end of the 2024 academic year to be funded in the 2025 academic year. This means: if your total course credits for your current academic year is 120 credits, you must have passed 60% of the credits (72 credits) in order for NSFAS to consider your funding for 2025 academic year.
-
Applicants must take care to submit the correct information on their application forms in order to avoid disappointment and/or funding outcome delays:
-
Their identity number, name and surname must be correctly entered on the application form AS IT APPEARS ON THE IDENTITY DOCUMENT. This is crucial as an error here could lead to NSFAS not being able to process that application and thus rejecting the applicant for funding.
-
The same applies to parental information. This must be provided even if the applicant is not living with their biological parent(s) or if either parent is deceased.
-
The same applies to supporting documents. While NSFAS makes use of third-party data sources to validated information, there are occasions when physical documents must be submitted along with the application.
-
Failure to submit the requisite documents will result in the application process being delayed and/ or rejected for that applicant.
-
NSFAS reserves the right to call for any supporting documents or evidence, in order to validate the details in an application.
-
NSFAS cautions applicants against accepting assistance from others when completing their applications, and especially when registering on the MYNSFAS portal or completing details for disbursements.
-
NSFAS advises applicants to ensure that their contact details (email and mobile phone) are correct and that these do not change, particularly during the application process.
-
A NSFAS official will NEVER ask an applicant or student for their password details. NSFAS cautions applicants and students from sharing such information with ANYONE.
