Africa International Learning and Teaching Week

A welcome from the Director of Learning and Teaching, Professor Annaline Keet

The Faculty of Health Sciences at NMU is actively preparing for its African International Learning and Teaching Week, scheduled for 28 September to 2 October 2026.

This year’s theme, “Towards Human-Technology Synergies: Global Innovations for Transforming Health Professions Education and its Implications for Ethical Leadership and Governance”, has been thoughtfully developed to engage students, academics, and collaborators in the health and wellbeing sector. It responds to the growing need to align health professions education with rapid technological advancement.

The programme is structured around three subthemes:

  1. Transformative technologies for future-ready health professionals, with a focus on maintaining human-centredness in a technology-driven era;
  2. Curriculum renewal for Healthcare 5.0; and
  3. Interprofessional, transdisciplinary, and global collaboration to promote social accountability and sustainability in health professions education.

Together, these subthemes highlight the need to integrate digital innovation with human-centred care, ensuring a balanced emphasis on developing technologically proficient yet compassionate practitioners who can effectively leverage technology to improve healthcare outcomes across diverse communities.

By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation, the faculty creates opportunities to share and engage with best practice models. The theme further highlights the importance of ethical leadership and governance, placing strong emphasis on equity and professional accountability within technology-enhanced learning environments.

This collaborative initiative supports the broader vision of the university and faculty to deliver transformative, socially responsive education. Ultimately, it seeks to prepare future health professionals to navigate complex systems with integrity and purpose.

We warmly invite you to join us for this exciting and impactful event.
